As a newborn and baby photographer, I have to take the safety of my little clients very seriously. It might surprise you to know that the newborn photography industry is completely unregulated. Photographers like me, who take safety seriously, have to take it upon ourselves to be trained and educated on how to ensure the beautiful images we create, are done safely.
Being a newborn and baby photographer requires a unique set of skills and there is a worldwide organisation that exists to support photographers like me, who want to have access to safety training and resources that we can use to provide clients like you with a better service. I’m delighted to have joined BANPAS (Baby &Newborn Photography Association) and you will be able to find me on their directory of photographers. They also have a fabulous facebook page for pregnant and new parents here .
Deciding on a photographer to capture those first precious moments can be a huge decision. Which is why our main priority is always the safety of your baby. In addition to being a member of BANPAS, your photographer is fully trained in safe newborn posing and is fully insured.
We have a studio in South Cerney, which is easy to reach from Cirencester, Swindon and Cheltenham. The studio is light, airy and comfortable with everything ready for your arrival. It is sanitised and temperature controlled so that your new arrival is safe and comfortable. Clothing is provided and everything is ready for your arrival so that you can relax and enjoy your bespoke session.
Your photographer will follow your baby’s lead, allowing time for cuddles and feeding. We only book one newborn session per day to ensure the session is relaxed and baby is content. Parent and sibling shots are always included in the newborn session. New mums are often hesitant to get in the photo, but even if you store them away for the future, your children will be grateful for images with you in them one day.
Our newborn session pricing is simple, with no hidden costs and additional fees. Please take a look at the investment section of the website for details of pricing. Your newborn images will capture your new baby naturally and simply in beautiful light. Have a look at the Newborn portfolio more examples of our work.
I’d be delighted to chat to you about how I can create a beautiful gallery of images for your newborn and very happy to chat to you about how I do that safely. Please contact me for booking and availability information.
After a fantastic newborn session with the gorgeous Freddie and his lovely mum Katie, I thought it’d be great to share with you what to expect at one of my Newborn Sessions.
Freddie was wide awake when he arrived and was alert and curious about his new environment. Katie and I chatted over a cup of tea and then we started with some shots of Katie and Freddie together. I showed Katie where to stand and asked her to hold Freddie how she normally would. It’s important that parents feel comfortable and I try to put them at ease throughout the shoot. I used different angles and got a variety of close ups and shots from further away to show the bond between mum and baby. As Katie cuddled Freddie sitting on the bed, I shot away and we chatted about her new life with her baby boy.
After another short feed, Freddie fell asleep and I got some lovely shots of him on the beanbag. I placed him in slightly different positions (after a quick cuddle!) moving him and the bean bag ever so slightly so that the light would fall on him in different ways. Babies live in their comfy sleep suits for those first few weeks so I love to get some images of them all curled up in their sleep suit, some of their little legs kicking around with just a body suit on and wrapped up or swaddled in only a nappy. As Freddie drifted in and out of sleep he gave me some lovely stretches, sneezes and funny expressions.
Freddie and Katie’s session took just under two hours and was really informal and relaxed with no pressure on baby or mum. I love Lifestyle Photography, which is more candid in nature and without the formal props and posing. I like to incorporate this into my Newborn sessions to create a more relaxed and natural feel to the images.
Send me a message on firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like information on these or any other sessions and I’ll give you a call. Any excuse for a natter 🙂
We’re all super busy these days with work, kids, keeping the house clean, extra-curricular activities to get to, homework and having a social life. So getting family photographs taken and printed is usually right at the bottom of the to do list right?
I get it, I really do. It hit me today though. Whilst sorting through piles of old paperwork, I came across some pictures my youngest had made at playgroup. It hit me that he’s moved onto a new phase in his life. We don’t hang out in the week now, with playdates and toddler groups and snuggles at home. I can’t get that time back. It’s the same with all of my 3 kids.
We can’t go back and take the photographs. It’s often when it’s too late that we wish we’d taken and printed more. So when I do get to hang around with the kids, after work, school runs, dentist appointments and the swimming lessons, I’m going to get the camera out and take the photos.
Family sessions here at Feather Tree Photography are relaxed, fun and I can even get the prints and wall art sorted for you too 🙂
You’ve heard it a lot….it’ll go so quickly, enjoy every second. Here’s the thing, it really does go quickly and you won’t enjoy every second! There are times when it’s really hard but those moments are completely overshadowed by the special moments. In the blur of parenting, it’s easy to forget to take photographs of every detail of our children. If we do remember to take photographs, mum is very rarely in them or they stay on our digital devices and hard drives for years.
A newborn photography session with a highly trained newborn photographer, will capture your new baby in the best light, using a range of clever angles. The images will show baby how loved they were from the start and how they immediately fit into their loving family. These photos will be the ones that you have printed and put on your wall.
Newborn sessions with me are simple and natural. They reflect a more relaxed style, with baby as the focus and props and poses to a minimum. This is such a special time that passes so quickly. I want to create photos that show the details and personality of each baby and the connections between parents and siblings too.
Baby’s change so quickly and when they’re sitting, a baby session in the same style as your newborn session is a beautiful way of adding to your growing wall art and albums.
